Biomechanics Researcher
Most of what 'presence' requires doesn't exist yet. This team invents it — at the edge of embodied intelligence and touch.
Your charter
Invent what presence requires — at the edge of embodied intelligence and touch.
Where you'll focus
Embodied intelligence
Perception, learning, and behavior that let a body act in the real world.
Touch & affect
Tactile sensing and the qualities that make an interaction feel real.
Research that ships
Turn open questions into experiments, and experiments into capability on real hardware.
What you'll own
- Push the frontier on embodied intelligence, perception, and touch.
- Turn open questions into experiments, and experiments into capability.
- Work shoulder to shoulder with hardware and software — research that ships.
- Define what 'presence' means technically, then build toward it.
What you bring
- Research depth in embodied AI, robot learning, perception, or tactile sensing.
- You publish or you ship — ideally both.
- Comfortable owning ambiguity at the edge of what's known.
- Strong written and spoken English.
Bonus points
- Publications at top venues, or patents.
- Sim-to-real, manipulation, or affective computing experience.
Benefits
- Compensation benchmarked to the best in robotics and AI, plus meaningful equity — build like an owner.
- Health coverage for you and your family.
- The hardware, compute, and tools the work demands — no penny-pinching on what matters.
- Based in Shenzhen, Shanghai, or Hong Kong — or work fully remote.
- Unusual ownership, and a front-row seat to a category being invented.
How we hire
We keep hiring short and human: a first conversation, a work session on a real problem, and time with the people you'd build alongside. We hire for taste and conviction over pedigree — if the work pulls at you, apply even if you don't tick every box.
About Somnia
Somnia builds intimacy robotics — presence you can hold, engineered end to end: the body, the intelligence, and the story we tell about her. Most of what we need doesn't exist yet, so we're inventing it. We hire for taste and conviction over pedigree, and we give people unusual ownership. (And yes — she/her. We mean it.)
